Annual reports

Each year we publish a report summarising our activities relating to diversity over the last academic year and giving data concerning staff and students. The report also includes progress on our objectives.

University of Staffordshire has monitored a range of equality characteristics for both staff and students for many years. This data has been used to monitor our performance against equality targets, to highlight any areas where we need to improve, and inform objectives. Our monitoring is in line with HESA requirements.

Research

A code of practice for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) has been approved and training has been undertaken to ensure that equality issues are embedded in all aspects of this process.

Athena Swan

We are preparing our submission for an Athena Swan University Bronze Award. Athena SWAN focuses on improving progression for women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

Race Equality

At the University of Staffordshire we recognise that the continued existence of racial inequalities in higher education limits both minority ethnic individuals and the sector as a whole in fulfilling its full potential.

We have therefore developed our Race Inclusion Action Plan (2020-2023).

Stonewall

We have been a Stonewall Diversity Workplace Champion since 2012. In 2014 we entered the Workplace Index for the first time coming 243 - a very respectable placing for a first attempt. We are using the feedback gained from Stonewall to make progress towards LGBT equality.
