Institute of Education

Here at Staffordshire, we’re on a mission to champion education from pre-school to professor. That’s why we set up the Institute of Education.

It’s brought together our wide range of expertise, including early years, teacher training and professional development, research projects and bespoke support for schools. It means we can support you at every stage of your professional journey.

What we offer

If you’re just starting on your path, we have three undergraduate degrees that will help you enter the education sector. If you’ve already got your degree and are looking to train as a teacher, choose one of our PGCEs specialising in different aspects of primary, secondary and post-16 education.

Our Ofsted rated 'Good' nursery provides full day-care for children ages 0 to 5 and is available for students, staff and members of the local community.

Starting your career

You’ll get so much more than a qualification by studying with our Institute of Education. We offer the whole University experience.

From day one, you’ll be immersed in exciting and interactive learning opportunities. You will put education theory into practice in real classrooms as we work with dozens of schools across the region. These experiences include community projects and events in the local area - like planting trees in Hanley Park - to art-based activities in the environment promoting a sustainable world.

And you’ll learn from the best during your time at the University.

Supporting education professionals

If you are an experienced teacher on the management ladder, there’s our flagship MA in Education. It will deepen your knowledge of policy and practice across the sector and can be studied full-time on campus or part-time online.

We don’t just nurture the skills of teachers. Some of our professional development courses are also relevant to people working in community settings, healthcare, social work or museums. We even offer training to RAF flight crews. Our teaching and research has a global reach in teacher education, parent partnerships and home-schooling during the pandemic. And our international links have created opportunities for our students to visit different countries for education, voluntary work and cultural experiences.

Aim for the skies and join the Institute of Education. We can help turn your career dreams into a reality and equip you for an ever-changing education landscape.

How we can help schools

Our academics have built up strong links with schools to offer support, consultancy services, mentoring and other expertise. We are keen to partner with more schools and can help design a tailor-made programme that suits your needs.

Whether you’re looking for continuous professional development or to develop resources for a particular area of the curriculum, we’ve got you covered. Or why not share your ideas and experiences with other professionals by joining a network? We can open doors to lots of opportunities.

Our staff also work with local authorities and other partners on specific projects. It includes innovative schemes to transform maths and English skills. The Institute of Education also has international partnerships. These include links with nurseries and schools in Italy and Portugal, along with a project in China focusing on the primary curriculum.
