Anna Ljungberg

Graduate story

Staffordshire graduate Anna Ljungberg says her experience at university has helped position herself at the heart of games development.

Anna, 26, joined Codemasters as a Gameplay Programmer after graduating in 2012 with a degree in BSc(Hons) International Game Artificial Intelligence, jumping straight into the development of GRID 2.

Anna said: “I was mainly responsible for maintaining and implementing new features for our camera system, but I was also involved in many other gameplay related tasks.”

Rewarding work

After being at Codemasters for a year, she was promoted to the position of Experienced Programmer, and is now working on new and exciting core engine technology to enhance game development for the new generation of consoles.

She said: “The most important thing to me is to feel happy and motivated with what I do every day, as well as something that gives me an opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge. Being a games programmer definitely gives me all that, as I really enjoy what I do and the end product of my work.

Staffordshire Influence

“Staffordshire University taught me both professional and personal skills. With the great placement year I had the opportunity to gain real industry experience, which meant I gained a lot of knowledge both involving programming but also professional and personal skills that I could bring back, and become a much better student.”

Sharing experiences

Anna says her favourite memories of the University stem from having great teachers and classmates, which made her experience so much more enjoyable.

“But, I think the absolute best moments are going back to the University now after graduating and meeting the new students and being able to talk to, encourage and share my knowledge of the industry with them.”

Looking to the future

Since joining the industry quite recently, Anna says she remains determined to keep on learning and experience new things.

Anna added: “I wish to gain knowledge in many areas of games programming, as well as see new studios and experience the world. I also really enjoy helping encouraging other students and getting them involved and interested in the industry.”
