The five steps of Clearing

Frequently asked questions

For students

Can I use Clearing? You can use Clearing if you apply after 30 June, didn't receive the right for you, or didn't meet the conditions of your offers.

When can I use Clearing? If you have your exam results but you have no offers, you can use Clearing, it is available from July until September.

Where can I find my Clearing number? If you're eligible for Clearing, your Clearing number will be on the welcome page and 'Your choices' section of Track.

I've been offered a place. What do I do now? Go to the 'Your choices' section of Track and click 'Add Clearing choice'. Only do this when we confirm that we will offer you a place and you want to accept it.

Fill in the course details by the date you're given on the phone. This counts as you accepting the offer. So if we confirm it'll show as an acceptance on the choices page of Track and we'll send you a confirmation letter.

You can only add one choice at a time, but if the university/college doesn't confirm your place, you'll be able to add another.

Why hasn't Track updated? Track will update once we make a decision on your offer. If you've met the conditions of your offer, your place will be confirmed soon.

For parents

What is Clearing? Clearing is just another name for an admissions process.

What is the reason for using Clearing? Clearing provides a second chance to find the right course if a student hasn’t received the grades they were hoping for, haven’t met conditions of previous offers, or if they have changed their mind from what they originally chose.

Is Clearing common? Yes. Over 10% of students come through Clearing every year.

Are Clearing students treated differently? No, Clearing offers are processed in a different way, but once an offer is made and accepted, students treated the same as someone who has accepted prior to the Clearing process.

How do I know that Staffordshire University is right for my child? We are committed to student satisfaction and employability, and our accolades speak for themselves. If you’re still apprehensive, call us on 0800 590 830 where you can speak to our Clearing advisors, and even book a campus tour to experience the University first-hand!

How can I help? As well as providing moral support, make sure your child has their Clearing number to hand when they’re ready to make a decision. This can be found in the 'Your choices' section of Track.

COVID-19

COVID-19 has affected the world dramatically since the start of the pandemic. But we’re not letting it affect your learning. We don’t stand still in a changing world and despite these unprecedented challenges, we’re looking forward to welcoming our new cohort of students in September 2020.

How will courses be taught in September? See our Coronavirus information hub for more information about our blended approach to teaching and learning.

Are facilities like the library / Student Hub / catering outlets / shops going to be open? We’re planning for the majority of our Students’ Union facilities to be open and operational from September 2020 with social distancing measures in place.

Are Clearing students offered accommodation on campus? We offer guaranteed accommodation if you’re applying through Clearing, although if our on-campus accommodation is full, we’d look to place you in private accommodation through Greenpad – a free private lettings service run by our Students’ Union who help our students secure good quality, affordable accommodation. See accommodation on our Coronavirus information hub for more information about social distancing measures in our accommodation.

What about Welcome / Freshers Week? Will there be social events for me to attend? See our Coronavirus information hub for more information about our enhanced, extended welcome period in September and blended programme of social events and activities.

Will I be able to visit the university before September? Our campuses are currently closed, and our Open Days have been made virtual for the time being. Our Virtual Open Days are the perfect opportunity to find out everything you need to know about studying with us and what it’s like to be a Staffordshire University student. You’ll still have the chance to explore our courses, accommodation and facilities and you'll also be able to chat to our current students and expert academics. There’s still time to book your place on our next Virtual Open Day.

What’s your best advice to students and parents? The pandemic is likely to result in rising unemployment and will probably take some years to recover. This really is a great time to be starting university and working towards your future career. As the Connected University, we will do everything we can to give you a first-class student experience and to help you to realise your potential. Rest assured that you won’t miss out and we'll be ready to welcome you into the Staffordshire University community in September, as well as support you going forward on your university journey.

Remember that going to university is a life-changing decision and accepting the right course at the right institution is paramount. Always keep in mind that this is your decision. You will have plenty of time to make an informed choice during the coming weeks and months.
