Making The Most of Your Data

Overview

The brand-new Making The Most of Your Data masterclass is designed to introduce learners to using a range of tools in Microsoft Excel in order to make the most of their data sets. Learners will gain invaluable knowledge on how to display data effectively, protect its integrity and validate, link and sort and filter data. 

 

Course Overview

This 3 to 4-hour masterclass will cover:

Pivot Tables

  • Creating and Using a Pivot Table
  • Filtering and Sorting Data within a Pivot Table
  • Manually and Automatically Grouping Data in a Pivot Table and Renaming Groups

Charts

  • Creating a Combined Line and Column Chart
  • Adding a Secondary Axis to a Chart
  • Changing the Chart Type for a Particular Data Series
  • Adding and Removing a Data Series to a Chart
  • Moving and Formatting Chart Data Labels Modifying Chart Axis Scales
  • Inserting Images into Chart Bars and Columns

Linking & Embedding

  • Linking Data and cells within a worksheet and workbook

Sorting and Filtering Data

  • Sorting Data by Multiple Columns at the Same Time
  • Applying a Pre-Installed Custom Sort
  • Creating a Customized List and Performing a Custom Sort
  • Using AutoFilter to Perform Multiple Queries

Validating

  • Data Validation - Whole Number, Decimal Number, List and Date

Macros

  • Creation and Deletion of Macros

Passwords & Security Issues

  • Adding and Removing 'Open' Password Protection to a Workbook
  • Adding and Removing 'Modify' Password Protection to a Workbook
  • Password Protecting Cells and Worksheets

 

Course Aims

Skills and knowledge gained:

All learners will be able to confidently manipulate their data to easily understand tables and visuals. Learners will also be able to link, embed and sort, validate and protect their data using advanced Excel tools and techniques.

Entry requirements

This masterclass is open to anyone who lives in Stoke-on-Trent (paying council tax to Stoke-on-Trent city council), is 18 years old and over, and meets the following criteria:

  • Employed for one hour or more of paid work per week (including those temporarily away from work because they are sick or on holiday).
  • Temporary and permanent employees who are on fixed-term contracts or agency temping.
  • Self-employed people.
  • People on government-supported training programmes, engaging in any form of work, work experience, or work-related training.
  • People on maternity or paternity leave.

Cost

This course is free to all learners who meet the criteria above.
