Work experience

Whichever health or wellbeing course you choose to study at Staffordshire University, you will have the opportunity to work in a great range of diverse practice learning placements, where you’ll gain experience and connections to give you an edge in your future career.

Whatever your specialism, you'll get to practice in a caring, compassionate and competent manner and you'll enter the job market with a clear edge over the competition.

Highly-skilled and experienced mentors will play a pivotal role in supporting you in practice, as well as guiding you through assessment. They'll plan and co-ordinate your learning experience, balancing the amount of direct supervision you require against independent learning. Wherever you live we'll advise and support you in your travel arrangements.

Undertaking work experience is an important aspect that sits perfectly along your studies and helps you to:

  • build a network of industry connections
  • put your academic knowledge into frontline practice
  • enhance your skills with hands-on experience

Throughout this process, students develop partnership working with service users and carers and explore how they can work effectively and creatively with them.

I have been lucky enough to work with the community midwives, on the birthing unit, on delivery suite, also on maternity and medical wards. The variety of placements have given me a range of skills and knowledge which have helped me develop as a midwife.

Our students

Everybody that I know within my cohort has received not only one job offer, but a few of them have received several job offers – and it's all thanks to the training we've received and the variety of placements that we've had. It's opened your eyes to areas that you didn't think you'd experience or that you'd be interested in.

Katrina Riches

Nursing Practice (Adult)

It's been nice to have a range of placements. We go to Telford, Shrewsbury and Stoke so we get to see different Trusts and how they work.

Jedaine Angus

Nursing Practice (Child)

I made some amazing friends during my time here; not to mention the encouragement and positive vibes given by the staff and my mentors on placement. They’ve helped me achieve my lifelong ambition of being a paramedic.

Katie Hill

Graduate Paramedic

I loved studying Health and Social Care at Staffs. Great facilities and amazing supportive lecturers. Just a few months from completing the course I gained full-time employment as a Young Carers Project Worker. I'm #proudtobestaffs
