Profs in the Pav Online: Global Sustainability Series

  • Date:
  • Time: 6pm – 7.30pm

Health inequalities are a global concern. The gap between the health of the richest and poorest continues to widen. The first part of this talk will introduce the social determinants of health, in particular, the potential role of natural environments, before considering one of the most extreme forms of inequality: homelessness. The second part of the talk will explore inequalities in health care access. The global prevalence of non-communicable diseases (e.g. diabetes) is rising steadily; linked to population growth, ageing of populations and lifestyle changes associated with urbanisation. Many of these people need access to mobility assistive products to allow them to actively participate in society. It is estimated that only 1 in 10 people in need has access to prosthetic and orthotic mobility assistive products.
