'Public mass shootings - which events matter under what circumstances? with Sarah Watson, Senior Lecturer

This talk will explore public mass shootings, how they are framed and responded to across Europe. I will consider how public mass shootings are defined currently, the limitations of these definitions, and how this influences perceptions of the severity of the event, which ultimately has implications for policy and legislative change.

‘Is digital forensics all its cracked up to be?’ with Hannah Vincent, PhD Researcher.

"The effectiveness of forensic science in the Criminal Justice System is widely unknown and is based on presumptions as to how useful it is. In 2020, the Home Office, along with Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire University, conducted a study on the impact of forensic science on Child Sexual Exploitation cases. Many questions arose from this study, specifically about the effectiveness of digital evidence. In this seminar, the use of digital triage and the implantation of the “Digi vans” will be discussed. By knowing the measurement of effectiveness, it could help ongoing issues such as backlogs, directing budget and allowing resources to be utilised appropriately. Due to the limited funding and available resources, understanding the effectiveness of digital forensic evidence and where it can have the most positive impact is essential."
