Public lecture
Hosted by Dr Laura Walton-Williams, Associate Professor of Gender Based Violence at Staffordshire University, and Lewis Hackney, presenter of the Truuman Podcast.
Join us for a thought-provoking public lecture that delves into the complex and evolving perceptions of masculinity and femininity. ‘Beyond Stereotypes: Perspectives on Masculinity and Feminism’ brings together diverse perspectives on what it means to be a man or a woman in today's society.
Dr Laura Walton-Williams leads the Staffordshire University Violence Against Women and Girls (SU-VAWG) Hub and the Gender Based Violence (GBV) Research Group. Laura's work focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to tackling GBV and innovative methods to support victims and survivors. Her expertise in gender-based violence provides a critical lens on how societal norms and gender roles impact both men and women.
Lewis Hackney, the visionary behind the Truuman Podcast, brings his unique perspective on masculinity. The Truuman Podcast offers honest, raw conversations with men who share their personal journeys through struggles, triumphs, and mental health challenges. Lewis’s mission is to challenge societal norms and redefine masculinity, encouraging men to embrace vulnerability and emotional authenticity.
Together, Laura and Lewis will explore the perceptions of gender identity, the spectrum of masculinity and femininity, the intersections of gender and the modern outlook of these roles. This event aims to foster a deeper understanding of how gender roles are shaped and challenged in contemporary society and to inspire a balanced approach to societal change and understanding more diverse viewpoints.
Join us for an evening of insightful dialogue, compelling stories, and collaborative learning. Whether you're interested in gender studies, personal development, or social justice, this event promises to provide valuable insights and foster meaningful conversations.
