The National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), based in Islamabad, is rated the number one Pakistani university in the QS World Rankings 2021 and is recognised globally for its research excellence.

Professor Raheel Nawaz, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Digital Transformation at Staffordshire University, is a NUST alumnus and the driving force behind a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed by the institutions.

He explained: “As a proud alumnus of NUST, I am delighted that Staffordshire University has established this new relationship. We share similar values and ambitions to drive research, innovation and enterprise which has real-world impact while developing world-ready graduates. With both institutions committing to work more closely together and explore academic links, I look forward to seeing what the future will bring.”

Last month, a delegation led by Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, Rector of NUST, visited Staffordshire University’s Stoke-on-Trent Campus to learn more about its UK counterpart and sign the MoU in person.

The visitors met with Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Jones, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Kevin Hetherington and other senior colleagues before being given a tour of the University’s cutting-edge facilities.

Simmersive technologies used in healthcare training, games and computing facilities, and a brand-new virtual production studio were showcased. Guests also had chance to explore the University’s Innovation Enterprise Zone which is home to 3D printers, robotic arms and more.

Professor Martin Jones, Vice-Chancellor of Staffordshire University, said: “It was a pleasure to host our NUST colleagues here in Stoke-on-Trent and to showcase some of our digitally innovative teaching and learning environments.

“Staffordshire University is on a mission to provide the next generation of education opportunities to transform people, places and society. As we do this, it is pivotal that we face outwards and expand our international network, creating new ways for our students and staff to make global connections.

“We are thrilled to be linking up with a world-leading institution such as NUST and the signing of the MoU cements our commitment to this relationship. We are excited to explore opportunities which will have meaningful impact for both NUST and Staffordshire University.”
