Staffs Professor appointed to UK Government panel

A University Professor has been appointed to the UK Government panel to support the design and delivery of robust, high-quality evaluation.

Government spending will be more efficient and effective if programmes are informed by evidence, and then rigorously evaluated to decide whether they should be continued, expanded, modified, or stopped.”

Professor Geoffrey Pugh has been appointed to the UK Government Evaluation & Trial Advice Panel (ETAP).

Managed by the Evaluation Task Force, the Panel provides free advice to government departments and What Works Centres when designing evaluations. Since its launch in 2015, the Panel has advised on over 160 programmes and policies, spanning a range of policy areas including crime, education, employment and more.

Professor Pugh joins the Panel as part of the next term of panel members. The appointment is for two years, commencing 1st March 2023, with the opportunity to extend for an additional year.

  • Professor Pugh has taught and examined at all levels in higher education, mainly in the areas of economics, applied economics and research methods . He has extensive experience of leading external projects. His main interests are policy/programme evaluation, SME development, and innovation.
