Israel and Gaza: A statement from Staffordshire University

At Staffordshire University we strive to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all members of our community and our thoughts are with everyone affected by the horrific loss of life and suffering in Israel and Gaza.

We echo the statement of Universities UK (UUK), the collective voice of 142 universities across the UK. Hamas is a proscribed terrorist organisation and signalling support, including moral support or expressing an opinion or belief that is supportive, is a criminal offence, as outlined in the Terrorism Act (2000).

As stated by UUK: “In line with the sector’s clear commitment to freedom of speech, it is important that universities enable and support students and staff to debate and discuss this crisis, and the most challenging issues it raises, within the law, and with respect and tolerance.”

Our thoughts are with all those affected. The impact of these distressing and terrifying events is being felt across the world, and by our own communities here at home.

In 2021 we adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism as a crucial step in combatting prejudice.

Our thoughts are with all those affected. The impact of these distressing and terrifying events is being felt across the world, and by our own communities here at home.

Together, let us navigate these difficult moments with solidarity, understanding, and the shared hope for a better and more harmonious future.
