Darren Walsh

Lecturer

Health, Education, Policing and Sciences

My career in West Midlands Police included roles in uniform policing (Response, Neighbourhood and Public Order) and in investigation (CID, West Midlands CTU, Counter Corruption and West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit). I retired in December 2021 as a Detective Superintendent and I hope that I use can my experience to support the new recruits from West Midlands, Staffordshire, West Mercia and Warwickshire Police forces, teaching and supporting the delivery of Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) and Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP).

During my career I achieved accreditation as an Authorising Officer for covert authorities, Kidnap and Extortion Senior Investigating Officer and I was the force lead for Robbery and Burglary.

I have represented the interests of UK Policing in Council of Europe negotiations on the adoption of domestic legislation to protect the integrity of covert investigations and safeguard the wellbeing of staff and officers.

Following a significant Counter Terrorism Operation, I led the development of an Independent Advisory Group to capture the sentiment towards policing within the community. This group has continued to flourish and has received national recognition in the Race for Opportunity Awards.
