Outline
The examination of forensic evidence relies on established biological and chemical methods. This masterclass will enable students to gain hands-on practical experience with a range of analytical methods to conduct analytical chemical testing on forensic specimens.
During the Chemical Analysis workshop, students will have the opportunity to extract and analyse a variety of samples, which could include drugs, metals, scent compounds, paint, etc. The optimal analysis technique will be used, which could include analysis using chromatography, mass spectrometry, Infra-Red spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy or gravimetry. Specific analysis types can be requested in advance, to ensure learners gain maximum benefit from the masterclass.
There are a broad range of careers within the STEM sector (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), and a Science degree will equip you for a wide variety of opportunities.
