This will provide an overview of a range of topics in Sports and Exercise study at Higher Education. Sport and Exercise physiology, psychology, sports therapy and coaching will all be included with practical hands on activity. Students will discover the wide range of career pathways available.

Example programme

10.00 to 10.15 – Welcome and overview of Activity  

Learners will discover key aspects of what degrees are awarded within sport and exercise and learn what a BSc and BA are. There will be emphasis on what career pathways are available within the sports industry. They will also learn about how university sport provides opportunities for widening participation and social mobility.

10.15 to 12.00 – Masterclass Mini Lecture/Interactive workshops  

Students will have the opportunity to take part in three activity sessions. 

Sport and Exercise Physiology 

An Olympic athlete needs to be in peak physical condition when performing. Therefore, sport and exercise physiologists will support athletes to improve and maintain their physical condition. They will monitor and evaluate fitness levels and provide reports for identifying strengths and areas to improve. 

Learn how key components of Sport and Exercise help develop elite athletes and further discover how sciences consider the theoretical knowledge and use practical application of scientific principles relating to physiology that can develop and improve human performance. 

Sport Psychology 

In high pressure sport Olympic champions will go through various amounts of pressure situations. Sport psychologists are trained to support these Olympians and help them manage their emotions and thoughts to effectively deal with any situation to maximise their performance. 

Learners will discover what performing under pressure is like and what methods and techniques are used to help champions perform to their potential. Learn how goal setting and profiling can keep teams focused throughout the competitive season and how psychological skills are used to train athletes to perform to optimum levels. 

Sports Therapy 

All high performing athletes who are champions within their own sport will have had an injury at some point in their career, therefore, sports therapists are trained to prevent injury and rehabilitate those champions. 

Learners will discover how functional movement and posture screening is used to assess a champion athlete’s potential capacity to injury. Learn what methods and techniques assess and rehabilitate an injured athlete.

12.00 to 12.30 – Lunch (Students and Staff to provide own lunch)

12.30 to 2.15 – Masterclass Mini Lecture/Interactive Workshops 

Students will take part in Sports and Football Coaching activities. 

To become a world class team, world class champions need to work together and have a strong collective togetherness. Each individual has their own skill sets that further enhance the team.  

Leaners will have the opportunity of participating in a team environment within game-based approaches that include demonstrations on how fundamental movements and skill acquisitions are developed within small sided invasion games to help teams become champions of their sport.
