Preproduction for Short Films Masterclass: Idea Generation and Storyboarding

Masterclass

Outline

You will be introduced to techniques for developing a concept for a short film, and take part in tasks in both idea generation and storyboarding to realise it. This will help you develop key skills needed during the preproduction stages, and also encourage you to think about how narratives are told using sound and visuals; how the shots you choose communicate with the audience. You will also learn key skills of how to pitch your short film.

Students will be organised into filmmaking crews to complete the tasks using BB collaborates ‘Break Out’ function, working together to begin the preproduction stages of a short film they devise.

Because the tasks are collaborative in nature, there needs to be at minimum 2 students per ‘crew’ to complete the task.

Equipment/Materials needed for this session:

  • Storyboard Worksheet (emailed over for printing or access to downloadable free software)
